Brandon Kono Obituary

Brandon Michael Kono, 40, of Ankeny died on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at his home. A visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m., Sunday, November 7, 2021, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 2-4 p.m., Sunday, November 7, at the Izaak Walton League in Newton.  Memorials in Brandon’s name (checks to Vince Kono) may be left at the funeral home or at the Ike’s. 

Brandon, the son of Vince and Jane (Holler) Kono, was born on August 2, 1981 in Des Moines. Most of his childhood was spent in Newton, where he graduated from high school in 2000.  During high school he worked for Jan and Jerry’s Ice Cream Shop and Fareway.  After graduation, Brandon worked at the Maytag Company before going to John Deere and learning welding.  He left John Deere to do a two-year apprenticeship with the Baker Group, before returning to John Deere, where he was still currently working. Brandon was a member of the Crossroads Shooting Range.  He enjoyed trap shooting, pheasant hunting, RC cars, and going to hard rock concerts.  Brandon was an avid fan of the Florida Gators and the Dallas Cowboys.  He liked to play World of Warcraft and Mario Bros.  He loved going to movies and his favorites to watch over and over were Star Wars, Nightmare Before Christmas and Stitch.  Brandon had an extensive and unique shoe collection and loved his Oakley sunglasses.  Brandon and his girlfriend, Missy, enjoyed playing softball and volleyball. Brandon's greatest joy in his life was his son, Owen. 

Brandon is survived by his dad and step-mom, Vince and Tina Kono of Reasnor; son, Owen Kono; his siblings, Michelle White of Des Moines, Rebecca Kono (Alex Hartman) of Reasnor, Ashley Cleghorn (Joshua Kingery) of Des Moines, Jacob (Vicki) Drew of Newton, and Joshua Drew of Des Moines; maternal grandmother, Laura Holler of Altoona; his girlfriend, Missy Collins of Ankeny and her children, Abby Collins (Mauri Castro), Becca Collins, Kaitlyn Collins and grandchildren, Mateo and Julian; and his many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  He was preceded in death by his mother, Jane Holler; paternal grandparents, Leland and Loretta Kono; maternal grandfather, Delton Holler; step-maternal grandparents, Charles and Billie Rosenberger; and niece, Audrey White.
