Carroll’s funeral service will be 2:30 p.m., Sunday, March 20th at the Community Heights Alliance Church, 2500 S. 13th Ave. E. in Newton.
The family will greet friends from 3-5 p.m., Saturday, March 19th at the Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton.
Burial with Military Honors will be at the Palo Alto Cemetery in rural Newton.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to the Reasnor Fire Department. Memorials may be left at the church on the afternoon of the service or they may be left at or mailed to the funeral home, please add, Attn: Van Gorp Family on the envelope.
Carroll Robert Van Gorp, the son of Robert and Celia G. Millgate Van Gorp was born on June 17, 1929 on the family farm in rural Reasnor, Iowa. He attended a Reasnor country school just down the road from where he grew up.
Carroll was inducted into the U. S. Army on July 17, 1951 as a Private E-1. On January 16, 1952 he was promoted to the rank of Corporal (T). He was given an Honorable Discharge on July 8, 1953 at Camp Carson Colorado.
On January 25, 1957, Carroll was united in marriage with Lois Joan Van Genderen at the First Reformed Church in Sully, Iowa. They were blessed with four children, Kathy, Bryce, Bonnie and Barry. Carroll was a farmer his whole life north of Reasnor.
Carroll was a very active member of the Jasper County Farm Bureau. He held several offices with the organization and served on the membership committee for years. Carroll had also served many years as a Palo Alto Township Trustee in Jasper County. He filled many duties with his appointed office. Carroll was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, neighbor and friend.
Carroll died on Saturday, March 12, 2022, at his home in rural Reasnor surrounded by the love of his family. He was 92. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Wanda (Marion) Willemsen and Charlotte J. (Jerry) Damman; brother, Laverne (Emma) Van Gorp; sisters-in-law, Grace Van Gorp, Norma (Harris) Van Waardhuizen, Lois Van Genderen; brothers-in-law, Jim DeKruyff, Wilson Dop and Russell (Ruth) Van Genderen.
Those left to honor Carroll’s memory are his wife of 65+ years, Lois of Reasnor; four children, seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, five step grandchildren and five step great-grandchildren.
