Casie Marie Riney, 43, of Newton died on Monday, October 9, 2023, at her home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 16, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton. The family will greet friends from 1-3 p.m., Sunday, October 15, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Blue Lips Foundation for Pulmonary Hypertension Awareness or to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church may be left at the church the day of the service or at the funeral home.
Casie, the daughter of Melvin “Buck” and Sandra (Reid) Curfman, was born on March 18, 1980 in Keokuk. She grew up in northeast Missouri where she graduated from Clark County High School in 1998. After knowing each other for many years, during Casie’s junior year she began dating Matthew Riney and as you would say “the rest was history.” Casie continued her education at Truman State graduating with a B.S. in Health Science. On April 12, 2003, Casie and Matthew were united in marriage in Keokuk. They lived in Des Moines while Casie received her Master’s in Physician Assistant Studies from DMU. They then moved to Newton prior to starting their family. In 2006, Alexandra was born and then in 2009 Jackson completed the family. For several years, Casie worked as a PA for Capstone Behavioral Health in Newton. She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church serving as an Extraordinary Minister, on the Church Family Life Commission, and the Pastoral Counsel. Casie’s life revolved around her children and she was truly a “super mom.” Starting when the kids were little, she coached them in everything including soccer, basketball, and softball. She also was a dedicated volunteer for the Penguins Swim Team. Although Alex and Jackson were her pride and joy, Casie was a “mom” to every one of the kids she coached and loved. Casie continually gave of herself in the community, the schools, her church, and in all aspects of her life.
Casie is survived by her husband, Matthew Riney of Newton; children, Alexandra Riney and Jackson Riney of Newton; her father, Melvin “Buck” Curfman of Wayland, Missouri; and brother, Tate Curfman of Wayland. She was preceded in death by her mother, Sandra Curfman; brother, Tagart Curfman; and grandparents, Jack and Loraine Reid.
