Catherine "Cathy" Lynne Shine

Catherine “Cathy” Lynne Shine, 65, of Newton died on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at MercyOne Newton Medical Center.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 9, 2026, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.  Memorials in Cathy's name (checks to Clyde Shine) may be left at the funeral home. 

Cathy was born on April 23, 1960, in Grinnell, Iowa.  She grew up in the Grinnell and Newton areas, where she also attended school. Cathy was united in marriage with Clyde Shine on October 26, 1979, in Searsboro. They made their home in Newton. Cathy was a homemaker and stay at home mom to their two sons, Jason and Josh.  She enjoyed crafts, thrift shopping with her family, gardening, cooking and baking.  She also loved animals.

Cathy is survived by her husband, Clyde Shine of Newton; children, Jason Shine of Ankeny and Josh Shine of Newton; her mother, Rosemary (Eugene) Eike of Oregon, Illinois; father, Danny (Sue) Stier of Newton; her sisters, Deborah (David) Barton of New Hampshire, Teresa Stier of Illinois, and Susan (Eddie) Young of Newton; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by Clyde’s family including his brothers, JD Shine and Dan (Jane) Shine and his sister, Kathy Blystone.  Cathy is preceded in death by two sisters-in-law, Jane Shine and Teresa (Steve) Pettyjohn.
