Cecile Giles, 84, of Newton, formerly of Oklahoma, died Tuesday, May 12, 2020, at Accura Healthcare of Newton West. A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorials to the American Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer’s Association can be directed to the family or can be sent to the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton, Iowa.
Cecile, the daughter of Walter and Cora (France) Hogan, was born December 21, 1935, in Mangum, OK. She graduated from high school in Mangum and later took business courses in Weatherford. Cecile married Glen Pickering in 1954, and they had two children, Vickie and Darrell. The couple later divorced. Cecile was later united in marriage with James Giles in 1973, combining their two families. She worked at the VA Hospital in Muskogee, OK, until her retirement. Cecile enjoyed playing Bingo, slot machines, and going to the casino. She also played 31 with a group of friends for several years.
Cecile is survived by her children, Vickie (Tim) Johnson of Newton and Darrell Pickering of Petrolia, TX; her step-children, David (Laura) Giles of Bethany, OK and Gloria (Roger) Bozarth of Yukon, OK; 7 grandchildren: Kristi, Tessa, Tiffany, Eric, Jamie, Holley, and Chris; 17 great-grandchildren, and 1 more on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; two daughters-in-law, Cindy Pickering and Janet Pickering; and 3 sisters.
