Corey Aaron Peterson

Corey Aaron Peterson, 56, of Newton died on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Accura Healthcare in Newton.  A celebration of life visitation will be held from 11-1 p.m., Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Burial will follow at Newton Union Cemetery. Memorials to the Friends of the Library or Progress Industries may be left at the funeral home.

Corey, the son of Edward and Dixie (Westercamp) Peterson, was born on September 3, 1970, in Newton.  He graduated from Newton High School in 1992.  In 1989, Corey became part of the Progress Industries family where he worked at Cappy’s and in the PI workshop.  Corey loved spending time at the farm with his dad and at the Go-Cart track.  He also enjoyed bowling, going out to eat at Giovanni’s, and going on scenic drives.  Corey was a huge racing fan and liked going to Knoxville and also cheering on Darrell Waltrip, his favorite NASCAR driver.

Corey is survived by his mother, Dixie Peterson of Newton; brother, Kelly Peterson of Newton; his two nephews, Josh (Melissa) Peterson of Newton and Christopher (Elizabeth) Johnson of Runnells and their families; and extended family, Denny and Kim Shutty.  He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Peterson and two brothers, Kurtis Peterson and Troy Peterson.
