Curt “Curly” Allan James, 69, of Newton died on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center. No services are scheduled at this time. The Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory is handling the arrangements.
Curt, the son of Homer and Maxine (Acklin) James, was born on November 20, 1951 in Newton. He grew up in Monroe before living in Newton for most of his adult life. Curt was a graduate of Newton High School in the class of 1970. After many years of being together, Curt was united in marriage with Vicki Hutchins on September 4, 1981 in Newton. He worked for over 20 years in maintenance at the Vernon Company. Curt was an avid fan of NASCAR, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Iowa State Cyclones. He and his brother, Larry, a Hawkeye fan enjoyed a good-natured sibling rivalry and ribbing over whether the Hawkeyes or the Cyclones were better. Curt was also very handy and loved to tinker on projects and work on cars.
Curt is survived by his wife Vicki James of Newton; children, Jefferson James of Newton and Megan James of Newton; grandchildren, Karysa and Keegan Young and Jaxson and Olivia James; his sister, Sharon (Paul) Masters of Newton; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Homes James; mother, Maxine Atwood; sister, Barb (Bob) Engle; and brother, Larry James.
