Daniel Louis Stock, 66 of Newton died on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at Unity Point Iowa Methodist Medical Center. A celebration of life and ice cream social will be held on July 5, 2023, from 6-8 p.m. at Woodland Park, beginning with a short time of remembrance to celebrate Dan’s life. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Dan’s name (check to Tammy Stock) may be left at the celebration or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
Dan, the son of Robert “Bob” and Alice (Reese) Stock, was born on September 29, 1956, in Des Moines as a triplet with his brothers, Douglas and David. He grew up in rural Mingo and graduated from Mingo High School in 1975. Growing up he also helped local farmers on their farms. Dan then moved to Newton and began his 30-year career at the Maytag Company. On March 25, 1989, Dan was united in marriage with Tammy Buchanan. As their children, Matthew and Elizabeth were growing up, Dan was an active volunteer with Babe Ruth baseball, Newton Little League, and the Newton Girl’s Softball League. Dan was also a talented photographer and enjoyed tinkering around their property. He also loved to spoil his grandchildren. After Maytag’s closure, Dan worked at Rock Communication/Mittera Group.
Dan is survived by his wife, Tammy Stock of Newton; children, Matthew Stock (Laura Orestano) of Minneapolis, Minnesota and Elizabeth (Patrick) Dooley of Pella; his grandchildren, Zoey and Nevin Dooley; siblings, Douglas Stock of Pleasant Hill, Thomas (Susanne) Stock of Berwick, Carla Hines of Des Moines, and James (Linda) Stock of Chicago, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, David Stock in infancy; and a sister, Patricia Stock.
