Danita Wells Obituary

The family will greet friends from 4-6 p.m., Tuesday, March 21, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton. Memorials in Danita’s name (checks made payable to Jason Carter) may be left at the funeral home.

Danita, the daughter of Loren and Ilo Mae (Sampson) Utterback, was born on May 20, 1960, in Winterset.  As a child, her family moved to Algona. Danita would later graduate from Algona High School. Through the years she lived in many places including Ames, Iowa, St. Louis, Missouri, Seattle, Washington, Whittier, California, and Wilton, Iowa.  In 1985, she made her home in Oskaloosa, Iowa where she would live for many years. While there, she worked as a teller for the Mahaska State Bank and later joined her dad in a house painting business. Danita was also a devoted mother to her two boys, Jeremy and Jason, and loved going to their sporting events.  She also had many hobbies including finding rocks which she would call “rocking”, fishing, playing cards, mushroom hunting, and going antiquing.

Danita is survived by her two sons, Jeremy (Brooke) Carter of Wayland and Jason Carter of Newton; five grandchildren, Macie and Jackson Carter and Quinn, Shea, and Cael Carter; her siblings, Denise (Steve) Farrell of Ankeny and Dennis Utterback of Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Darla Calvert.
