Danny Ebert Obituary

Danny Darwin Ebert, the son of Dale and Marcia (Morris) Ebert, was born April 19, 1957, in Grinnell. Dan grew up in rural Kellogg. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Kellogg.  He graduated from Newton High School in 1975. After high school he worked at Miracle Playground Equipment in Grinnell, Maytag in Newton, and TPI in Newton. In his younger years, Dan was a self-employed roofer. 

   Dan was an avid outdoorsman. He started out hunting at an early age with his dad, brother, and uncles. He enjoyed deer and turkey hunting and fishing with his son, Derek.  He also enjoyed morel mushroom hunting, watching wildlife, birds, and spotting eagles.  He raced motorcycles in Eddyville and did motorcycle hill climbs in Kellogg. He was an avid NASCAR and Indy car fan and was a season ticket holder at the Iowa Speedway.

   He loved listening to music and attending live concerts. He was most comfortable in his shorts and sandals and loved spending time at Ebert Park.

   Dan died on October 4, 2020, surrounded by his loved ones after a yearlong battle with cancer.  He is survived by his son, Derek Ebert of Fort Collins, CO; his significant other, Brenda Eilander of Kellogg; his mother, Marcia Ebert Goodrich of Kellogg; his siblings, Darla (Larry) Stevens of Copperhill, TN, Delwin (Barb) Ebert of Kellogg, and Dana (Mike) Hasselbrink of Kellogg; as well as his special people, David Eilander and Courtney Claussen; and his nephews; great nephew and niece; his cousins and friends.

   A Celebration of Dan’s Life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 10, 2020, at Ebert Park, across from 9373 Imperial Ave., in rural Kellogg. Memorials in Dan’s name can be brought to the celebration or to the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton.
