Darlene Michelle (McDaniel) VanBalen, 46, of Monroe died on Friday, January 7, 2022, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials in Darlene’s name (made payable to Glenn VanBalen) may be left at the funeral home.

Darlene, the daughter of Donald “Don” and Pam McDaniel, was born on November 10, 1975, in Kentucky. She graduated from high school in Villa Park, Illinois, before settling down in Newton in 1998. Darlene was united in marriage with Glenn VanBalen on July 18, 1998, on a hot summer’s day at Maytag Park. Family was everything to Darlene, and she was a loving and devoted wife and mother. Darlene’s other love was shopping, whether it was strictly window shopping or coming home with a purchase.

Darlene is survived by her husband, Glenn VanBalen of Monroe; children, Austin VanBalen of Des Moines and Ashley VanBalen of Monroe; granddaughter, Madelin VanBalen of Monroe; and sisters, Barb of Florida and Becky of Chicago. She was preceded in death by her parents.
