Obituary

 Darlyne Maxine (McCabe) Ver Heul Snook, 93, of Newton died on Saturday, April 8, 2023, at her home in Park Centre.  A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, April 17, at Newton Union Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 12:30 p.m., until the time of service at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials to Heinz 57 or the Newton Community Education Foundation may be left at the funeral home. 

Darlyne, the daughter of Owen and Vivian (Batty) McCabe, was born on May 3, 1929 in Colfax. She grew up in various communities in Central Iowa, before moving to Newton and graduating from Newton High School in 1947.  After high school, Darlyne worked as an Executive Secretary for the Maytag Company.  On September 8, 1950, Darlyne was united in marriage with Franklin Ver Heul in Newton. Darlyne later worked as a Secretary at the Administration Building for the Newton School District. Following Franklin’s death, Darlyne was married to Burton Snook on December 24, 1983, in Newton. They loved to travel together. Darlyne was a talented artist and seamstress. She was well liked and enjoyed trips to Las Vegas with her “Lucky Ladies”. Darlyne also volunteered at the American Legion and was a member of the Lady Elks.

Darlyne is survived by her three children, Jeff (Ann) Ver Heul of Adel, Susan Wheeler of Ankeny, and Luke Ver Huel of Seymour; grandchildren, Aaron (Amanda) Ver Heul, Nate Ver Heul, Mackenzie (Chris) Casey, Jake Wheeler, Amy (Bryan) Northcutt, Jennifer Campbell, Tiffany Ver Heul, and Katie (David) Bouck; her 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; step-children, Terry (John) Shaw of Battle Lake, Minnesota and Rob (Debbi) Snook of Newton and their families; and her half-siblings, Jeda Blanchard and Dan (Jan) Geifler. She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Franklin Ver Huel in 1981; second husband, Burton Snook in 2020; and a great-granddaughter, Ari Perez.
