David Carpenter Obituary

David Eugene Carpenter, “ 85 going on 86” died on Friday, June 5, 2026, at his home in Bondurant. The family will greet friends with a lunch from 11-12:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 17, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.  A graveside service will follow at Newton Union Cemetery.  Memorials to the Animal Rescue League Iowa or the American Heart Association may be left at the funeral home.

Dave, the son of Harold and Mabel (Anderson) Carpenter, was born on November 13, 1940, in Newton.  He grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1958.  He then went on a football scholarship to Parsons College in Fairfield, where he would graduate with a BA in Business Administration.  Dave returned to Jasper County and worked in the Sales Department at the Maytag Company for many years, retiring in 1996.  On February 3, 1996, Dave was united in marriage with Donita Sille in Newton.  After retirement, Dave worked at Maples Chevrolet, sold real estate, and worked at the Newton Daily News.

Dave was always a little ornery and a jokester.  He never knew a stranger anywhere he went and could make great connections with people.  Dave enjoyed playing handball and racquetball through the years at the YMCA.  In the last few years, he liked riding his motorized trike.  He also loved his dog, Liza. Dave and Donita had recently moved to Bondurant.

Dave is survived by his wife, Donita Carpenter of Bondurant; children, Tanya (Mark) Deppe of Altoona and Rod Carpenter of West Des Moines; his grandchildren, Brandon Deppe, Megan Deppe, and Josh Deppe (Chloe Thostenson), Rob Carpenter, Sarah (Clayton) Kneedler, and Tommy Carpenter; his great-grandchildren, Anthony and Cole; sister, JoAnn Reininger of Tucson, Arizona; sisters-in-law, Rebecca Carpenter of Deland, Florida, Mary Lou Villafuerte of Omaha, Nebraska, and Ruby Veber of Ankeny; and many special nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Alan Carpenter; and a sister in infancy.
