David Lee Fifer, 81, of Newton, died Wednesday, December 31, 2025, at his home. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials in Dave’s name can be left at the funeral home. Please make checks payable to Sherry Fifer.
Dave, the son of William Juette and Gladys Mozelle (Brayton) Fifer, was born August 10, 1944, in Newton. He graduated from Newton High School in 1963. He was united in marriage with Sherry Michmershuizen on August 29, 1969, in Newton. Dave worked as a machine operator and setup technician for The Maytag Company, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the UAW Local 997. Dave enjoyed woodworking, fishing, gardening, radio-controlled and u-control airplanes, and spoiling his grandkids.
Dave is survived by his wife, Sherry of Newton; his children: Jennifer Fifer (Dale Clark) of Des Moines and grandchildren, Austin Cones, Nathanniel "Thanner" Cones, and Maliah Fifer, and great-grandson, Bryson Cones; Scott David Fifer (Kim) of Carlisle; and Andrea Fifer Spoelstra of New Sharon and grandchildren, Angela, Aubrey, and Melvin Spoelstra; his brother, Dale Fifer (Esther) of Newton; and his sister, Linda Fifer Crall of Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Merlin Spoelstra; and his siblings: Kenneth, Norman, John, Loren, Evelyn, and Jean.
