David Alan Gale, 70, of Newton died on Monday, October 23, 2023, at Unity Point Iowa Methodist Medical Center. No services are scheduled at this time. Memorials to Willowbrook Adult Day Care may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
David, the son of Keith and Martha (Wheelwright) Gale, was born on May 28, 1953 in Des Moines. He grew up in Martensdale and graduated in 1971 from Stanzel Christian High School. After high school he moved to Colfax for a short time before making his home in Newton. In 1973, David began his 33-year career at the Maytag Company, retiring in 2006. David was a member of the UAW Local 997. David was united in marriage with Laura Newman on December 13, 1985 in Newton.
David was a talented athlete and an avid bicyclist, even riding his bike to work in the winter. While at Maytag, he participated with a co-ed relay team during the Drake Relays. Most of David’s life was spent volunteering his time with his children and for his community. He was a Boy Scout Troop Leader, member of Band Boosters, and coached multiple sports including, softball, basketball, and flag football.
David is survived by his wife, Laura Gale of Newton; children, Stacey Gale of Deland, Florida, Ben (Danielle) Gale of Norfolk, Virginia, Cory (Angela) Gale of Brentwood, Tennessee, and Kendra Gale of Washington, D.C.; his grandchildren, Rey Harvey, Robert Junkins, Jaelyn Gale, Annaleese Gale, and David Gale; his great-granddaughter, Emma; sister, Janet (Phil) Hendrickson of Liberty Center; his nieces, Kelsey (Mark) Casey and Jennifer (Mark) Johnson; and several cousins and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Hannah Gale.
