David Lyle Gordon, 86, formerly of Newton died on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Edencrest at Siena Hills in Ankeny. No services are scheduled at this time.
David, the son of Lyle and Dorothy (Craighead) Gordon, was born on July 21, 1938, in Fremont, Nebraska. As a child his family moved to Newton, Iowa. David graduated from Newton High School in 1956. He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1958. For several years, David worked as a building inspector for the City of Newton. Starting in 1983 until his retirement in 2003, he owned and operated Able Pest Control. David loved to coach soccer, refinish furniture, fish, ride his motorcycle, and go mushroom hunting. In his later years, he became a champion horseshoe pitcher.
David is survived by his children, Denise Heil of Twin Falls, Idaho, Scott (Anita) Gordon of American Falls, Idaho, Teri (Todd) Kendall of American Falls, Idaho, Nacole (Gary) Kendall of Pasco, Washington, Mike (Kerstin) Gordon of Georgia, and Dustin Gordon of Unionville, Missouri; his 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and former spouse, Ellen Gordon of Unionville, Missouri. He is also survived by his siblings, Linda (Roger) Wilker of Johnston, Rhode Island, JoAnn (Ken) Versteegh of Newton, Jon (Sheryl) Gordon of Newton, Sal and Davis Lamson of Seattle, Washington, Kristi (Bill) Eberhardt of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Tim (Peggy) Gordon of Muscatine; and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Suzanne (Leo) Peters; a great-grandchild; and a former spouse, Marguerite Armstrong.
