David, the son of William and Gertrude (McGee) Hobbs, was born on July 14, 1947, in Grinnell.  He grew up in Kellogg and graduated from Newton High School, where he was a member of the high school baseball team.  David served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam.  After he was discharged, David lived in California for a short time before moving back to Kellogg. On October 25, 1980, David was united in marriage with Roberta “Bobbi” Donahue at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

David worked as a machinist for Midwest Manufacturing for many years, retiring in 2004.  While his kids and grandkids were growing up, he enjoyed coaching soccer and going to their activities. He also like playing in local adult baseball and softball leagues.  David was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and liked going to races at the Iowa Speedway.  He also was a member of the Jasper County Freedom Flight.  David loved his pets and treated them as an important part of the family.

David is survived by his son, David Hobbs, Jr. of Ankeny; step-daughter, Kristin Davis of Ankeny; his granddaughters, Shannon (Brooks) Clark, Jaden Hunter (Michael Partoll), and Cali Hobbs; great-grandchildren, Lennon and Crosby; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Roberta “Bobbi” Hobbs; step-son, Billy Hobbs; and seven brothers, Harold, Ike, Rob, Kenny, Al, Roy, and Garold.
