David Trostel Obituary

David Alan Trostel, 65, of Newton died on Thursday, January 28, 2021, at his home.  The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, February 3, 2021, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.  Masks will be required and social distancing will be enforced.  Memorials in David’s name (checks made payable to Brenda Trostel) may be left at the funeral home.

David, the son of Donald and Beverly (Gorsuch) Trostel, was born on July 27, 1955 in Waterloo.  He grew up in Waterloo.  As an adult he moved to Cedar Rapids where he was united in marriage with Brenda Brown on August 22, 1981.  In 1992, they made their home in Newton. David worked for 25 years at Lennox in Marshalltown, retiring in 2019. He was an active member of the UAW Local 893 in Marshalltown.  He served as representative of Unit 11, recording secretary, steward, and chief steward. On the Local 893 board he was the 2nd Vice President and guide. He also was the Chairman of the Cap committee. As a strong democrat, David encouraged and advocated for everyone to vote.  David was an avid sports fan; cheering for the Iowa Hawkeyes, Denver Broncos, and Chicago Cubs. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR.  David like to fish and hang out with his union buddies.  He loved his pets; especially Chloe. 

David is survived by his wife, Brenda Trostel of Newton; children, Amy Trostel of Newton, Amber Trostel of Newton, and Ryan Trostel (Carla Gorman) of Chicago, Illinois; his step-sister, Kelly (Paul) Mattingly of Newton; grandchildren, Jazmin Chance, Gavin Trostel, Isacc Chance, Konner Revell, and Ofelia Garcia-Trostel and her mother, Jocelyn Garcia-Atilano; his siblings, Debra (Kermit) Larsen of Cedar Falls, Donnie (Teresa) Trostel of Goodyear, Arizona, Daniel (Bonnie) Trostel of Oceanside, California, Diane (John) Redmond of Watkins, and Douglas Trostel of West Virginia; and his many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
