Deborah “Deb” Ann Brown, 68, of Newton died on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at her home. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m., Monday, December 30, 2024, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.The family will greet friends from 3 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorials in Deb’s name (checks made payable to Mike Brown) may be left at the funeral home.
Deb, the daughter of Harold James and Frances Lorraine (McDonald) Kibbee, was born on June 27, 1956, in Grinnell. She grew up in Brooklyn. On November 11, 1979, Deb was united in marriage with Mike Brown in Brooklyn, where they also first made their home. They would later move to Malcom and in the mid-1990’s move to Newton. Deb was a homemaker and had also worked at Midtown Café and Maid-Rite. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Newton. Deb enjoyed camping, fishing, crosswords puzzles, and spending time with her family. She also liked trips to listen to live music and to go dancing at the casino. One of her most favorite traditions was taking her grandkids out to lunch.
Deb is survived by her husband, Mike Brown of Newton; children, Connie Mattson (Mike Yoakum), Tony (Sharon) Gabrielson, and Michael Brown, Jr., all of Newton; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her brother, Jeri Dean Kibbee of Marshalltown; and her puppy, Eeliak. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Jimmie (Mary) Kibbee; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
