Deborah “Debbie” Kay Schermerhorn, 75, of Boulder City, Nevada, formerly of Newton, died on July 19, 2025, at St. Rose Dominican Hospital in Henderson, Nevada. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Newton Union Cemetery. The family will greet friends after the graveside with a coffee time at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. A celebration of life will also be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 9, 2025, at Calvary Chapel in Boulder City, Nevada. Memorials to Deborah Schermerhorn may be left at the services. Contributions will go to Resident Activities at Lakeview Terrace.
Debbie, the daughter of John and Kathleen Schermerhorn, was born on February 21, 1950, in Newton. Debbie graduated high school in Bellflower, California. Debbie worked for the Norwalk Superior Court in California. She would later move to Newton, Iowa and worked for Central College in Pella and for the Department of Human Services. Debbie had a strong love and commitment to family, admiring her parents; having a close bond with her siblings; lovingly raising her four children, Tracy, Pete, Aaron, and Josh; and relishing in her grandchildren’s activities and achievements.
Later in life, Debbie moved to the Las Vegas area and continued to work for the Department of Human Services. She was also an active member of the Calvery Chapel being involved with children’s choir, quilting group, and Bible studies. Debbie had a lifelong love of shopping, regional culinary specialties, and all things “bling”. She enjoyed keeping in contact with everyone by phone and using her creative side to make many crafts.
Debbie is survived by her children, Tracy (Larry) Ravera, Pete (Wendy) Jenkins, Aaron (Kim) Jenkins, and Josh (Katie) Jenkins; grandchildren, Chanel (Ravera) Andrews, Jed Ravera, Sydney (Jenkins) Wittmer, Lakin Jenkins, Wyatt Jenkins, Ava Jenkins, Lainey Jenkins, Lauren Jenkins, and Grady Jenkins; a great-grandchild, Atticus Jenkins; and her siblings, Martin (Lily) Schermerhorn, Aleta (Joe) Palmiotto, and Jeffery (Sandy) Schermerhorn. She was preceded in death by her parents.
