Dennis “Denny” Lee Machin, 76, of rural Kellogg, died on Saturday, February 15, 2025, at MercyOne Des Moines. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, February 20, 2025, on Mike and Sue Beukema’s farm, 5333 Hwy 6 E, casual clothes suggested, and building will be heated. The family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, February 19, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton. Memorials to the Kellogg Fire and Ambulance may be left at the funeral home or at the service.
Denny, the son of Walter and Beula (Smith) Machin, was born on May 28, 1948, in Marshalltown. He grew up in Marshalltown and later on a farm north of Newton. Denny graduated from Newton High School in 1966. On June 7, 1969, Denny was united in marriage with Linda Scarbrough and they were blessed with three children, Rhondi, Chad, and Robin. Denny worked for nine years at the Co-op in Kellogg in addition to beginning his farming career. After that time, he dedicated his life to his land and his cows. Being with his cows and working the land were his “Happy Place.” Denny also enjoyed chatting and having a cup of coffee at the Co-op or heading into town to Casey’s to get a sweet treat.
Denny is survived by his three children Rhondi Machin of Newton, Chad (Tammy) Machin of Kellogg, and Robin (Rich) Sly of Newton; grandchildren, Michael (Heidi) Machin, Kaitlyn (Dallas) Ellsworth, Kenna (Austin) Machin-Green, Nikolas Ball, Dayne (Becca) Sly, Devin (Beth) Sly, Keely Sly, and Kinzi Sly; his great-grandchildren, Charles, Raegan, Addelyn, Myla, Ellie, Camilla, Spencer, Kolynn, and Murphy; siblings, Richard “Dick” (Darlene) Machin, Lloyd (Dianna) Machin, Marie Hoffman, and Lucinda Hollingshead; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bruce in infancy.
