Devin Michael

Devin Michael, 22, of Newton died on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center.  A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Memorials in Devin’s name (checks to Erica Wickett Brown) may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Devin, the son of Erica and Nathan, was born on April 26, 2003, in Newton.  He was a lifelong resident of Jasper County.  Devin graduated from Colfax-Mingo High School in 2022. He recently took a position with Per Mar Security and was working as a security guard at Grinnell Mutual. 

Devin was a kindhearted and determined young man who overcame many obstacles in life. Devin was intelligent and talented.  He loved to spend time gaming with friends, creating memories with his loved ones, or obtaining new knowledge from reading a book to learning a new language.  He loved his cat, Jane.

Devin can be described as a leader, fearless, and dependable.  He was able to make a friend in any room that he entered and was extremely loving to the people that surrounded him.  He would never back down from a challenge and would take charge in any situation.

Devin is survived by his mother, Erica Wickett (David Owens) of Mingo; bonus mom, Stephanie Roam; siblings, Alexis Hirayama (Remington Lillo), Ryleigh Angeline, Timothy Kendall, Samantha Roam , Mike (Amanda) Roam, Megan Roam, and Allison Roam (Nicholas Farrow); his grandparents, Patricia Roam of Newton, Kevin Lewis of Colfax, and Jill McMahon of Newton; great-grandmothers, Jean Roam and Lottie Jarnagin; his aunt, Ashley (Jarrod) VanScoyoc; uncle, Clint Lewis; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was also blessed to be loved by many friends including his girlfriend, Haley, and best friends, Dallas King, Grant Dachenbach, and Stone Odem. He was preceded in death by his grandpa, Terry Wickett, and a brother Ryan Roam.

Devin was a spark in this world that could never be put out.  He has blessed many with countless memories and laughter.  So next time you pick up a book, a controller, or go on an adventure please take the time to reminisce and remember him.
