Donald Dale Blank

Donald Dale Blank, 80, of Newton, formerly of Nevada, Iowa died on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at his home in Park Centre. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 3, 2023, at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Newton. The family will greet friends from 4-6 p.m., Thursday, November 2 at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.  On December 16, 2023 following a family inurnment, friends are invited to a coffee time beginning at 1:30 p.m, at the Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. Memorials in Don’s name (checks made payable to Karen Blank) may be left at the church the day of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Don, the son of Willis Kelly and Ida Marie (Bring) Blank, was born on September 5, 1943 in Lyons, Nebraska.  He grew up in Rosalie and graduated from Rosalie High School.  Don attended Nebraska Wesleyen and then Chillicothe Area Vocational-Technical School earning a certificate in Farm and Industrial Equipment Repair. On April 25, 1964, Don was united in marriage with Karen Kathleen Klintworth in Bancroft, Nebraska. They lived in Chillicothe, Missouri for two years and then made their home in Nevada, Iowa for 50 years. Don worked for Sauer-Danfoss for 34 years, retiring as a Field Service Engineer. He was an active member of the Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. Don was an avid Iowa State Cyclone fan.  He enjoyed tinkering and could fix anything.  He also loved to work in his yard, golf, go bowling, and ride his bike. Don and Karen enjoyed their many travels.  His grandchildren will always remember the golf cart rides and swinging on the tire swing. In 2019, Don and Karen moved to Newton and began attending Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

Don is survived by his wife of 59 years, Karen Blank of Newton; children, Gregory Blank of Nevada, Amy (Fred) Frank of Coralville, and Angela (Scott) Sevenbergen of Newton; his grandchildren, Jordan (Madeline) Oleszczak, Stuart (Megan) Gonzalez-Blank, Lauren and Jena Frank; and Blake, Haley, and Jana Sevenbergen; great-grandchildren, Walter and Kellen; his twin brother, Ronald (Paula) Blank of Inwood; brother-in-law, Larry (Roxien) Klintworth of Lyons; and many nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Marvin and Larry Blank; a granddaughter, Emma Frank; and parents-in-law, Howard and Alice Klintworth.
