Doris Jean Clausen, 89, of Newton, died Saturday, December 23, 2023, at MercyOne Newton Medical Center. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, December 28, 2023, at Newton Union Cemetery. The family will greet friends following the service with a luncheon at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials in Doris' name can be left at the funeral home. Doris, the daughter of Clyde and Gelene (Wheeler) Rawlins, was born March 28, 1934, in rural Galesburg. She grew up in the Galesburg and Reasnor areas and graduated from Newton High School in 1952. Doris was united in marriage with Kenneth Clausen on September 4, 1955, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. She had worked as an administrative assistant at The Vernon Company and Newton Manufacturing. Doris attended Community Heights Alliance Church. She enjoyed riding motorcycle with Kenneth, having lunch with her high school friends, reading, and playing games. Family was the most important thing to Doris.
Those left to honor Doris’ memory include her sons, Randy (Janet) Clausen of Urbandale and Scott Clausen of New Port Richey, Florida; her grandchildren, Drew (Kacey) Cochol, Megan Clausen, Jenna (Tim) Miller, and Tygue Clausen; 4 great-grandchildren: Juliette Cochol and Hallie, Carter, and Cameron Miller; her sister, Lois Zimmerman of Newton; and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Kenneth; a daughter, Rhonda, in infancy; and her siblings, Dale Wheeler, Francis Wheeler, and Beverly Rawlins.
