Dwayne Edward Wright, 79, of Ankeny, formerly of Newton, died on Friday, April 10, 2026, at Unity Point Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials in Dwayne’s name may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory (checks made payable to Dwayne Wright or Shelley Renes).
Dwayne, the son of Dora Mudra, was born on December 10, 1946, in Grinnell. He grew up in Newton and attended Newton Schools. Dwayne was united in marriage with Cindy Green on December 14, 1980, in Princeton, Illinois. They lived in the Grinnell and Newton areas. Dwayne worked for many years as a mechanic for Warrick Motors and as a long-haul truck driver. He was a huge fan of the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, Dallas Cowboys, and Iowa Hawkeyes. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and fishing. Following Cindy’s passing in 2007, Dwayne moved to Ankeny.
Dwayne is survived by his children, Shelley (Josh) Renes, Dwayne “Dewy” Wright, Tesha (Richie) Winters, and Korky (Melissa) Wright; his grandchildren, Ashley Miller, Cynthia Renes, Devan Renes, Cameron Renes, Raven Winters; his great-grandchild, Emri; several siblings; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother; wife, Cindy Wright; and siblings.
