Eleanore Ruth Strobel, 84 of Newton, went to be with the Lord on May 9, 2023, at Newton Village. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church. The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Friday, May 12, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.  Memorials in Eleanore’s name (checks made payable to Becky Eggen) may be left at the funeral home or the church the morning of the service.

Eleanore was born on July 13, 1938 in Pocahontas County, Iowa to George and Lydia (Wagner) Schuur. She graduated from Palmer High School in 1955. From a previous marriage, she had two daughters, Marcia Kaye and Rebekah Jean. She was a stay-at-home mom until the girls began school. In September 1971, she married Jack Strobel. She was employed by Denniston & Partridge Co as a bookkeeper. They were blessed to be able to retire at an early age and did lots of traveling. They enjoyed wintering in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas for many years. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and enjoyed attending luncheons with her Red Hat Society Sisters.

Among her many crafting projects, she enjoyed sewing, knitting, needle tatting and crocheting. She also had a love of puzzles, from word search to jigsaw puzzles, even up into her final days.

She is survived by her husband Jack Strobel; daughters, Marcia (Kevin) Klingson of Fort Dodge and Rebekah (John) Eggen of Runnells; two step-sons, Gary Strobel of Newton and Tim Strobel of Kellogg; her seven grandchildren, Kacie (Wade) Baumgartner, Justin Klingson, Ashley (Wayne) McFarland, Kendra Strobel, Kegan (Staci) Strobel, Olivia (Bryson) Cline, and Samuel Strobel; seven great-grandchildren; her brother, David (Rosemary) Schuur; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Donald, in early childhood; brother, Walter Schuur; sister, Mildred Lombard; and nephews, Scott Lombard and Vernon Schuur.
