Evelyn Irene (Stephens) Williams

Evelyn Irene Williams, 73, of Stratford, formerly of Newton, died on Friday, November 13, 2020, at Stratford Specialty Care.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 19, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.  Masks will be required to attend the services.  Memorials in Evelyn’s name (checks made payable to Amber Callison) may be left at the funeral home.

Evelyn, the daughter of Ward and Esther (Dicks) Stephens, was born on November 25, 1946 in Albia. She grew up Albia and graduated from Albia High School. Evelyn later attended Marshalltown Community College and received her LPN Associates Degree.  Evelyn worked at many area nursing homes and the hospital in Newton.  She was united in marriage with Jerald Williams on August 22, 1994 in Newton.  Evelyn was a member of the Red Hat Ladies and attended Cowboy Church.  She enjoyed being a Hospice Volunteer.  Evelyn also loved wiener dogs, reading the tabloids, driving out to Mariposa, and spending time with her grandchildren. 

Evelyn is survived by her children, Jon (Jill) Christy of Des Moines and Karen Christy (Mick McGinley) of Newton; grandchildren, Elizabeth Christy of Des Moines, Amber (Joel) Callison of Pilot Mound, and Moriah Hoskins of Des Moines; her great-grandchildren, Amelia and Bailey; step-children, Kim (Hameliton) Little of Waverly, Missouri and Debbie Dover of Independence, Missouri; step-grandchildren, Chelsea (TJ) Smith of Carrollton, Missouri, Chassity Little of Collins, Missouri, Jill (Joe) Miller of Concordia, Missouri, and Jessica Williams of Concordia, Missouri; her step-great-grandchildren, Zane, Wyatt, Jaidyn, Dalton, and Neaveh; and siblings, Mary (Gary) West of Ankeny and JoAnne Plummer of West Des Moines.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerald Williams; step-granddaughter, Rachel Williams; and a brother, Jim Stephens.
