Everett Phillips Obituary

   Everett Richard Phillips, 82, of Newton, died Sunday, May 17, 2020 at MercyOne Newton Medical Center.  There will be no services at this time.  The Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory is handling the cremation.  Memorials to Everett’s family can be sent directly to the family or to the funeral home.    Everett, the son of William Everett and Alice Marie (Martin) Phillips, was born August 1, 1937, in Sigourney, Iowa.  He attended school in Cantril, Ollie, and Ottumwa.  He was united in marriage with Virginia Arta Willis, and to this union two daughters, Tammy Jo and Melody Lynn, were born.  After Virginia’s death, Everett spent many years with Luella Van Eckren.  After Luella’s death he met and married Celia.  Everett had worked on farms in Keokuk County for years and then went to work at Pella/Rolscreen for 30 years.  Everett was an animal lover. He also enjoyed fishing, cheering for the Kansas City Chiefs, being in nature, and spending time in Missouri, where he lived off and on for several years.

   Everett is survived by his children, Tammy Jackson and Melody Phillips, both of Newton; his 5 grandchildren: Dillon Phillips, Destiny Phillips, Damian Phillips, Dalton Simmons, Danica Jackson, and Jasmine Jackson; his sister, Jo (Mark) Jackson of Ottumwa; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Harold Conklin; his two wives and his life partner; a son, Ricky Dean Phillips; his sister, Nellie McCarty; his brother, Harold “Dick” Conklin; and a nephew, Richard McCarty.

   The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses at MercyOne Newton Medical Center for caring for Everett.
