Freda Smith of Covington, Georgia; formerly of Newton, passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.
She was born May 7, 1937 to John and Eathel Grimes in Strawberry Township, Arkansas.
On April 21, 1951, Freda was united in marriage with R. V. Smith in Batesville, Arkansas. They were happily married for 69 years until the passing of R. V. on July 6, 2020. They were blessed with four children: Wayne, Sue, Gene and Melissa.
Freda always had a welcoming smile for her customers at the Terrace Inn in Newton where she worked as a server for over 20 years. After retiring, Freda and R.V. moved to Georgia where they enjoyed their time visiting with their neighbors. Freda stayed active in her golden years cooking, spoiling her pet cats, and tending to her flower garden which had many roses, her favorite flower. A kind and loving soul, she will be greatly missed by all that knew her and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her spouse, R. V. and her grandson, Jeremy, and is survived by her children, Wayne (Carol) Smith of Newton, Sue (Brian) Smith of Cedar Rapids, Gene (Lynisa) Smith of Newton, and Melissa (Bobby) Williamson of Conyers, Georgia; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Friday, November 1st at 1:00 p.m. at the Sugar Grove Cemetery in rural Newton. Memorials to Paws and Claws may be sent to the funeral home in honor of Freda.
