Frederick Pendleton Obituary

Frederick H. Pendleton, 79, of Newton, died Saturday, February 7, 2026, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center.  No services are scheduled at this time.

Fred, the son of George Henry and Rose Elizabeth (Rank) Pendleton, was born November 23, 1946, in Des Moines, Iowa.  He was raised in Thornburg and graduated from Tri-County High School in 1965.  After attending Northwest Missouri State University for one semester, he chose to enlist inthe U. S. Army in 1967, where he served in active duty in Stuttgart, Germany, as well as Da Nang and Saigon, Vietnam, until 1970.  He worked for the Northwestern Bell Company, beginning as a line tech and then as an installer for large businesses while employed by AT&T.  He retired from Lucent Technologies in 2000.  After his retirement, Fred worked at Breeding’s True Value in Winterset for several years.  Fred was united in marriage to Bonnie Anderson on July 30, 1994, in Indianola.  The couple lived in Earlham and Dexter before moving to Newton in 2017.  Fred was a member of the United Church of God in Des Moines and a 50+ year member of the American Legion of Iowa – District 5.  He enjoyed watching and feeding the squirrels in his yard, his pets, and listening to sermons and studying the Bible.

Those left to honor Fred’s memory include his wife, Bonnie, of Newton; his children, Nicholas Pendleton of Beaverdale and Jessica (Shon) Kofoid of Lamoni; his stepchildren, Ric West of Arkansas and Saralyn (Ryan) Reece of Newton; his grandchildren Simon, Galaxie, Halo, Landon, Hannah, Alaric, and Jensen; one great-granddaughter, Juno; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
