Fredrick ‘Fred’ Lutz McCumber, Jr., 72, of Newton, died on Sunday, June 30, 2024, at MercyOne Des Moines. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, July 15, 2024, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends prior to the service from 2-3 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials in Fred’s name (checks payable to Elsie McCumber) may be left at the funeral home.
Fred, the son of Fredrick and Irene (Bogue) McCumber, was born on September 1, 1951 in Newton. He graduated high school in 1969 and went on to serve in the United States Army. On May 5, 1972, Fred was united in marriage with Elsie Lounsbury at St Luke United Methodist Church in Newton. He was a dental technician for over 40 years and enjoyed fishing. Fred was also a longtime member of Solid Rock Church in Monroe.
Fred is survived by his wife, Elsie (Lounsbury) McCumber; children, Stefanie (Michael) Tasler and Brian (Katie Denbo) McCumber; grandchildren, Garison Tasler, Graceann (Alec Brown) Tasler, Gibson Lee Tasler, and Logan Abel; mother, Irene (Bogue) McCumber; siblings, Cheryl (Michael) Armstrong and David (Pam) McCumber; and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father; nephews, Denny Downing and Michael Armstrong Jr.; and niece, Audrey Pavlovec.
