Gary A Phelps

Gary Allen Phelps, 71, of Newton, formerly of Spencer, died on Friday April 3, 2026, at his home.  No services are scheduled at this time.  Memorials to Wesley Life Hospice may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Gary, the son of Harold “Blackie” and Eleanor (Huss) Phelps, was born on March 18, 1955. He graduated from Clay Central Community High School in Royal, Iowa in 1974. Gary worked for FBG Facility Services doing commercial cleaning and facility maintenance, retiring in 2025.   He enjoyed playing slot machines and spending time with his family.

Gary is survived by his daughter, Jen Phelps of Marshalltown; son, Jeff (Shawna) Clark of Newton; grandchildren, Ceaira Vanderveer, Shyann King, Kaden Clark, Dustin Baker, and Lacey Titus; and his eight great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Larry, at birth; and a sister, Joan.
