Gary Michael “Mikey” Sharpnack, 57, of Newton, died Thursday, September 18, 2025, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Gary, the son of Raymond Leroy and Betty (McCoullagh) Sharpnack, was born April 15, 1968, in Des Moines. He attended Des Moines schools and moved to Newton in 1987. Gary was united in marriage with Deanna Webster on September 14, 1990, in Newton. He worked as a cook at several restaurants, including Country Kitchen, Okoboji, and Midtown Café—where he also was the owner/operator. Gary enjoyed playing softball, bowling, and horseshoes with his friends and family. He loved his children and grandchildren. Gary was a kind, generous man who would give anyone the shirt off his back. Gary was loved by many in the community.
Gary is survived by his beautiful wife, Deanna Sharpnack; his children, Stephanie Webster, James (Jo) Webster, and Thomas (Jofel) Sharpnack; many grandchildren; his “adopted” children and grandchildren; a sister and a brother; and many nieces and nephews.
