Gary David Ware, 75, of Newton, died Thursday, July 23, 2020, at MercyOne Newton Medical Center. A private family graveside service will be held at Newton Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.
Gary, the son of John Jack and Marilyn (Little) Ware, was born June 27, 1945, in Newton. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. He graduated from Newton High School in 1963—the year of undefeated football and undefeated State Basketball Champion teams. He graduated from Buena Vista University in Storm Lake in 1968 with a B.A. in social psychology. He attended the Iowa Military Academy OCS for the National Guard. Gary also served in the Colorado National Guard as a MASH Company Clerk and in the Iowa National Guard as an A.G. Personnel Specialist.
Gary worked as an employment specialist, employment manager, personnel officer, and a vocational/career counselor. He had worked in Denver, CO, Storm Lake, Ames, Des Moines, Fort Dodge, and Sioux City, Iowa. He was a member of the Emerson Hough Chapter of the Izaak Walton League.
Gary is survived by his son, Jason Jay Ware of Sanford, Florida, and several cousins in Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents.
