Glen C. Swisher

   Glen C. Swisher, 76, of Colfax, died Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.  A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, June 11, 2026, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory in Newton.  The family will greet friends from 12-1 p.m., Thursday, June 11, at the funeral home. Memorials to The Wounded Warrior Project can be left at the funeral home.

   Glen, the son of William and Iva (Alloway) Swisher, was born December 7, 1949, in Newton. He graduated from Newton High School in 1968.  He served in the US Army in Vietnam until an injury forced him to medically retire.  He was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star for his heroism. He was united in marriage with Deborah Jansen in 1972, and the couple had two children, Darrick and Kimberly. The couple later divorced. Glen worked in paint for The Maytag Company for 30 years, retiring in 1998. He was a member of VFW Post 1655 and the UAW Local 997. He enjoyed building motorcycles, watching his Denver Broncos, golfing, riding his Harley, fishing when he was able, and playing pool. He was a self-proclaimed “Pinball Wizard” who was known for his sense of humor and his jokes. Glen was a talented woodworker, taking much pride in the projects he created—especially the gifts he made for his grandkids over the years. 

   Glen is survived by his son, Darrick Swisher of Colfax; his bonus child, Nathan (Amy) Culp of Colfax; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Ronnie (Cindy) Swisher and Laurie (Albert) Sudbrock; his sister-in-law, Connie Lakin; his longtime girlfriend, Carla; and several nieces and nephews.

   He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Kimberly in infancy; his sister, Sharon Swisher; and his brother, Larry Lakin.
