Gordon LeRoy Jones

Gordon “Gordy” LeRoy Jones, 78, of Newton died on Monday, November 16, 2020, at his home. A private family graveside service will be held.  A celebration of Gordon’s life will be held this spring. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Gordy’s name may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory (checks made payable to Justin Jones).

Gordy, the son of David R. and Nellie (Beitel) Jones, was born on November 12, 1942 in Newton. He was a lifelong resident of Newton.  Gordy was united in marriage with Linda Wharff on September 15, 1967 at the First Christian Church in Newton. Gordy worked at Parsons, Winpower, Midwest Manufacturing, and Woodland Containers. He later retired from Thomberts.  Gordy was involved in countless car clubs including the Good Guys and many local clubs.  Many of his cars he built from the ground up.  Gordy didn’t know a stranger and would help anyone with anything they might need. 

Gordy is survived by his son, Justin (Diana) Jones of Iowa City; two grandchildren, Novie and Gauis Jones; and his brother, Jim Jones of Newton.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Linda Jones in 2013.
