Harold Leavens Obituary

Harold Keith Leavens, 77, the son of Harold Bart and Alma Trueper Leavens was born April 27, 1943 in Newton, Iowa. Harold went to be with the Lord surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 5, 2020. 

He graduated from Newton High School in 1961. Harold served his country in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. On February 18, 1965, Harold was united in marriage with Judy K. Howe at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. They were blessed with four children, Becky, Rhonda, Roxanne and Greg. Harold worked as a dispatcher for Bisom Truck Line in Newton for 50 years, retiring in 2017. He was a member of the Haven Vineyard Church in Newton and the American Legion Post 111. Harold was an avid NASCAR race fan.

Those left to honor Harold’s memory are his wife, Judy; his children, Becky Carkhuff (Rich Chance), Rhonda Leavens, Roxanne (Kim) Davis all of Newton, Greg (Sheri) Leavens of Colfax, and cousin (who was like a daughter) MaryBeth Lawson of Newton; his grandchildren, Chuck (Brenda) Carkhuff , Scott Carkhuff, Adam (Danita) Leavens, Austin Leavens, Avery (Jessica) Leavens, Alex Hayes, Kendal (Ashley) Davis, Crystal Davis, Joey Davis, Jessica Leavens, Jamie Leavens, Colby Lawson, Caleb Lawson and Christian Lawson; many great-grandchildren, his brother, Don (Lynn) Leavens of Camanche; his sister, Lois Hildenbrand of Newton; sister-in-law Gladys Howe of Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, mother-in-law Maye Howe, father-in-law, GrayDon G. Howe; and his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

The family will greet friends from Thursday, July 9th, 4-7pm at the Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton.

Harold’s service will be graveside on Friday, July 10th, 1:30pm at the Newton Union Cemetery. Following the service family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Harold’s Life at Greg and Sheri’s residence, 6063 S. 60th Ave. W., Colfax, Iowa.

Memorials to Wesley Life Hospice may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home, Attn: Leavens Family on the envelope.
