Harold "Hal" Ernest Millard

Harold Ernest Millard, “Hal”, age 80, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on Jan 13, 2026 at Mercy One Hospital in Newton Iowa. He was born July 7, 1945, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to Harold Lloyd Millard and Betty T. Millard (Toye). Hal was a 1963 graduate of Newton Senior High School in Newton, IA. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Hal and his wife, Jerie Deaton, began their marriage on Feb 17, 1964, in Newton, IA, where they also welcomed their two sons, Scott and Mike, into the world. Hal worked in mechanical and civil engineering throughout his career. He also had a passion for building homes and built or helped to build several in Iowa and Colorado. While Hal was building his first home in Parker Colorado, Hal and Jerie welcomed their daughter, Christie, into the world. In late 2021, Hal and Jerie moved back to Newton, IA to be close to family that was living there. Throughout his life, Hal also loved to camp and fish, which he did frequently. Hal and Jerie honored their wedding vows until parted by death.

Hal was preceded in death by his father, Harold Lloyd, his mother Betty, and his son, William “Scott”.

Hal is survived by his wife, Jerie; his sisters Lynn (James) Schiebel and Eilene (Donald) Jones; his daughter-in-law, Michele, son, Michael and wife Lauren, daughter Christie (Allan) Reed; his grandchildren, Heidi (Ian) MacLeod, Samantha (Jacob) Roberts, Madison (Charles) Scheitlin, Ross and his wife Sarah, Quentin Givens, Michael Givens, Victoria (Tyler) Dominick, and Lorelei Reed; his great grandchildren, Maija, Wyleigh, Rylie, Finley, Cora, and Charlotte, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation at 1pm and service at 2pm, Saturday, January 17, 2026. Reception to follow at Newton New Life Community Church of the Nazarene, 605 W 8th St N, Newton, IA 50208.
