Harriett (Meyer) Allspach

Harriett Louise Allspach, 71, of Newton died on Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at her home. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, September 26, 2022, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.  The family will greet friends after the service with a coffee time at the funeral home. Memorials to the First Baptist Church or MercyOne Hospice may be left at the funeral home. 

Harriett, the daughter of Harold and Arlene (Simbro) Meyer, was born on November 22, 1950 in Newton.  She grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1969. On October 9, 1969, Harriett was united in marriage with Gary Allspach in Newton. Her greatest joy was serving the Lord and being a stay-at-home Mom and Grammy. In between, she enjoyed employment opportunities with Iowa DHS, the Newton Fire Department, and the Newton Community School District. Harriett was a member of the First Baptist Church. She enjoyed traveling and cooking for her family.  The annual family trip the weekend after Thanksgiving to an area waterpark was always a family favorite. Harriett’s greatest love was supporting her children and grandchildren in their activities. 

Harriett is survived by her husband, Gary Allspach of Newton; daughter, Niki (Tony) Pauley of Newton and Tami (Ryan) Santi of Madrid; her grandchildren, Dalton Pauley (Clare Muckler), Jensen Pauley, Michael Santi (Molly Schaffer), Rylan Santi (Sam Thompson), and Ella Santi; siblings, Arden Meyer of Newton, Randy (Diane) Meyer of Newton, Melinda (Mark) Housley of Newton, and Alta (Jim) Hendershott of State Center; her brothers-in-law, John Heck of Newton and Stan (Pat) Allspach of Melrose; sister-in-law, Anita Layer of Newton; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Leroy, Brian, Harold, Jr., and Jeff Meyer; and two sisters, Helen Meyer and Karen Heck.
