Hazel Arlene Grissom, 80, of Newton died on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at Valley Vista Nursing and Rehab. A committal of her ashes will be held at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Newton Union Cemetery. The Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory is handling the arrangements.
Hazel, the daughter of Walter and Carlolyn (Laffoon) Madison, was born on December 28, 1945, in Newton. She grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1964. Hazel was united in marriage with Larry Grissom and in the early 1980’s they moved to Denver, Colorado. After living there for about 10 years, they returned to Newton. Hazel worked as the Lead Housekeeper at Newton Village for nine years,
Hazel is survived by her son, Michael Grissom of Newton; grandchildren, Desiree (Steven) Garcia and Chelsea Grissom; great-grandchildren, Roman and Xavier; her siblings, Linda Burns and James (Cindy) Madison; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Doug and Sylvia McMullen; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larry in 2008; and two brothers, John “Wayne” Madison and Walter “Eugene” Madison.
