Howard L. Ohler, 81, of Newton died on Thursday, January 6, 2022, at Accura Healthcare of Newton East. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 11, 2022, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday. Memorials in Howard’s name may be left to his family.
Howard, the son of Raymond and Louisa (Deaver) Ohler, was born on June 1, 1940, at his family’s home in Losantville, Indiana. He grew up in Losantville and graduated from Union High School in Modoc, Indiana. On April 4, 1965, Howard was united in marriage with June Timmons in Hagerstown, Indiana, where they made their home. In 1978, Howard and June and their two children, Lee and Greta moved to Kellogg, Iowa for Howard to begin his career at Midwest Manufacturing. Howard would later work for Manatt’s Inc. until his retirement. In 1989, the family moved to Newton. Howard was a sports fan and enjoyed cheering on Indiana basketball and St. Louis Cardinal’s baseball. He also liked camping and fishing. Howard was a dedicated grandpa and loved attending his grandchildren’s activities. Howard and June had a deep love for each other and were inseparable through the years, especially the last 10 years as their health journeys were nearly identical.
Howard is survived by his wife, June Ohler of Newton; children, Lee (Mary) Ohler of Brooklyn and Greta (Tom) McFadden of Mingo; grandchildren, Olivia Ohler, Megan Walford, Austin (Erin) McFadden, Archer McFadden (Aubrey Stacey), and Aiden McFadden; his great-grandchildren, Hailey Henry and Lane Nelson; and siblings, Sandy Parker of Anderson, Indiana and Mary Ann (Tom) Kolp of Carmel, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, David Ohler.
