Howard "Sonny" L Cupples, Jr.

Howard Lee  “Sonny” Cupples, Jr., 67, of Newton died on Friday, October 13, 2023, at MercyOne Newton Medical Center. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  Memorials in Sonny’s name (checks made payable to Dalton Cupples) may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.

Sonny, the son of Howard and Sandra (Houts) Cupples, was born on February 22, 1956 in Newton. In 1974, Sonny was united in marriage with Sue Ellen Young in Blue Eye, Arkansas. They made their home in Newton where Sonny worked as a mechanic at Cupples Auto Parts. Following Sue Ellen’s death in 2010, Howard reconnected with his high school girlfriend, Vicki Heller. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and going hiking and exploring.  He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and NASCAR.

Sonnyis survived by his children, John (Sasha) Cupples of Sully and Tom (Stacie) Cupples of Slater; grandchildren, Dallas (Ethan) Vander Pol, Savannah (Austin) Hester, Jonathon (Morgan) Cupples, Hannah Young, Dalton (Carlee) Cupples, Alexis (Kevin) Wilson-Cook, and Tommy Cupples; siblings, Cathy (Mark) Andersen, Connie Cupples, and John (Cindy) Cupples, all of Newton; and his significant others, Vicki Heller of Newton.  He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Sue Ellen.
