Jack R. Calhoun, 72, of Newton, died on Wednesday June 5, 2024, at Newton Healthcare Center. No services are scheduled at this time. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nursing home staff and Suncrest Hospice for their care of Jack.
Jack, the son of Wetzel R. and Doris M. (Gile) Baldwin, was born on January 11, 1952 in Davenport, Iowa. He lived in Newton most of his life and was a member of Community Heights Alliance Church. He enjoyed playing cards, dominos, and bingo as well as spending time with friends and was known as a ‘charmer’. Jack also loved making people laugh with his great sense of humor and put on a puppet show for the kids at church and at the nursing home.
Jack is survived by his siblings, Demmie (Lola) Baldwin and Christine (Steven) Hoff; uncle, Melvin (June) Gile; niece, Charlotta Gilbert; friends, Sara Butler, Bill and Gladys Harris, Pat, and special friend, Sandy; as well as many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ray Baldwin.
