Jack Dale Horn, 88, of Newton died on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at Park Centre. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 11, at the Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton. The family will greet friends after the service with a lunch at the church. Jack, the son of Kermit and Olive Mae (Spurgeon) Horn, was born on September 2, 1936, in rural Davis County. He grew up in the Moulton area and graduated from Moulton High School in 1954. Jack served his country in the U.S. Army Reserves. Jack then moved to the Newton area where he began working at the Maytag Company. On March 13, 1971, Jack was united in marriage with Vicky Voshell in Des Moines. Jack retired from the Maytag Company after more than 37 years of service in 1992. Throughout all of those years he was also a dedicated farmer. Jack was a member of the Community Heights Alliance Church.
Jack enjoyed fishing and taking annual trips to Canada. He also liked restoring antique tractors and going on tractor rides and to farm sales. Jack never met a stranger and morning coffee with friends was a great time to sit and visit. Supporting his children and grandchildren in their activities was also a favorite past time.
Jack is survived by his wife, Vicky Horn of Newton; two sons, James (Neisha) Horn of Newton and Joel (Arena) Horn of West Des Moines; his grandchildren, Jarret (Chania) Horn, Elizabeth Horn, Justin (Claire) Horn, Cadence Horn, Kaylee Horn, Isaac Horn, and Evan Horn; and great-grandchildren, Henry, Hattie, and Myles. He is also survived by his siblings, Gary Horn, Bryan Horn, Gordon Horn, Sheryl Lawson, Karen Evans, Illa Horn, Katherine Horn, Debra Montufar, and Corliss Howard; and their families. Jack is preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeff Horn; and brothers, David LaVerne Horn and Ronald Stewart Horn in infancy.
