Jacob Gerrett Neef, 87, of Newton died Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at the Comfort House in Pella, Iowa. The service will take place at 2 p.m. on December 18, 2021, virtually through Zoom. Please click HERE to watch the service.
Jacob, the son of Jacob and Henrietta (Willemsen) Neef was born on July 12, 1934, in Bussey, Iowa at their family home. Jacob attended school in Monroe, Iowa where he graduated in 1953. During his high school years, Jacob helped his father on the family farm. Jacob was united in marriage to Joan Clayton on October 22, 1955. Jacob loved to design and fix things, and the jobs that he held through the years often included maintenance. Jacob retired from the 3M Co. in Knoxville, Iowa in 1996 as a maintenance leadman. Following his retirement, Jacob and Joan moved to Colorado where they lived for 14 years before returning to Iowa. Jacob loved the mountains and when friends and family visited, he couldn't wait to take them to the mountains. In his spare time, Jacob enjoyed woodworking and gardening with Joan. Jacob was one of Jehovah's Witnesses where he served as an elder and loved sharing the Bible's message to his neighbors.
Jacob is survived by his wife, Joan of Newton, Iowa for 66 years; 3 children, Rebecca (Val) Michael of Altoona, Iowa, Tim (Jean) Neef of Knoxville, Iowa, and Joel (Julie) Neef of Newton, Iowa; brother, Cornie (Jackie) Neef of Newton, Iowa; and 6 grandchildren, 1 step grandchild, and 10 great grandchildren.
Jacob was preceded in death by his parents, his brother John Neef, and his sister Nellie Verdought.
