James Eitel Obituary

James “Jim” E. Eitel, 72, of Newton died on Sunday, August 23, 2020, at MercyOne Newton Medical Center.  A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 29, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.  Memorials in Jim’s name (checks made payable to Joyce Eitel) may be left at the funeral home.

Jim, the son of Eugene and Tillie (Branan) Eitel, was born on August 23, 1948 in Hampton.  He grew up and attended school in Hampton before serving his country in the U.S. Army from 1966-1969. While in the service he received his GED.  Upon returning from the service, Jim made his home in Hampton and began working for the Maytag Company.  In 1985, he transferred to Newton and continued working at Maytag until retiring in 2000.  After his retirement Jim drove semi and worked for a soil company. The last nine years he drove for HIRTA.  Jim was united in marriage with Joyce (Folkerds) Miller on December 30, 1985 at Zoar Church in rural Newton.

Jim enjoyed living on a farm where he had cattle and raised horses.  He liked to play guitar and was an excellent dancer.  Jim also loved to hunt, camp, and go on trail rides.  He was a past member of the Pony Express.

Jim is survived by his wife, Joyce Eitel of Newton; children, Lessie (Steve) Love of Geneva, Marcy Eitel of Iowa Falls, and Ty (Jamie) Eitel of Redfield; grandchildren, Cole and Cash Eitel; his step-son, Dean Miller (Wanda) of Newton; step-grandchildren, Troy (Beth) Callison and Travis Callison; and step great-grandchildren, Wanda, Abbie, Anthony, Tory, Alyssa, Megan, and Kinzie.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bob Eitel; and sister, Pam Wilkenson.
