Jim’s funeral service will be 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 17th at the First United Methodist Church, 210 N. 2nd Ave. E. in Newton. Conducted by Rev. Paul Smith.
The family will greet friends from 4-7 p.m., Tuesday, June 16th at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.
Burial will be at the Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to the Newton Christian School; memorials may be left at the church on the afternoon of the service or at the Wallace Family Funeral Home. If you are mailing your memorial to the funeral home please add, Attn: Farland Family on the envelope.
James L. “Jim” Farland, the son of Harold S. and Hazel M. (Horn) Farland was born on August 30, 1934 in Newton, Iowa. He was a graduate of Newton High School in 1952.
On September 5, 1953, Jim was united in marriage with Edna Mae Henle at the First United Methodist Church in Newton, Iowa. They were blessed with two children Joyce and Jim. He was retired as a manager at the Vernon Company in Newton. Jim was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the American Angus Association. He had also been a Little League coach in the early 1960’s. Jim loved his savior. He also loved all of his family from his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-granddaughter, to his brothers, sisters and all the nieces and nephews. Jim was passionate about his Angus cattle, the St. Louis Cardinals and the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Jim went to be with his savior on Monday, June 8, 2020 at Park Centre Care Center in Newton. He was 85. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edna; four brothers, Wayne, Delbert, Cliff and Ronn Farland; five sisters, Marjorie Kilburn, Alberta “Bert” Doane, Jean Dillin, LaVonne Thorson and Marilyn Greene.
Those left to honor Jim’s memory are his children, Joyce (Gary) McGaha of Apopka, Florida and Jim Farland of Newton; three grandchildren, Amie Kincaid of Middleburg, Florida, Ryan McGaha of Apopka, Florida and Nick Carey, stationed in Millington, Tennessee with the U.S. Navy; his three great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter; his sister-in-law, Donna Farland of Waukee; and many nieces and nephews.
