Jeff Allan Harter, 70, of Newton died on Friday, April 24, 2026, at his home. No services will be held at this time. Memorials in Jeff’s name may be directed to his family. The Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory is handling the arrangements.
Jeff, the son of Jack Lee and Sondra (Hurley) Harter, was born on December 7, 1955, in Newton. He grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1974. On May 30, 1982, Jeff was united in marriage with Robin Saam in Libertyville, Illinois. Jeff worked in machine repair at the Maytag Company for many years and then later at the Des Moines Register, where he retired in 2019. Jeff, Robin, and their children enjoyed going to the lake in Arkansas through the years. He also liked Sci-Fi, especially Star Wars, and traveling. Jeff liked remote control model airplanes and was a member of the Newton Sky Kings.
Jeff is survived by his wife Robin Harter of Newton; children, Talia Lombardi of Des Moines, Kristi Howerton of Collins, Troy Harter of Newton, and Jill Robinson of Collins; his grandchildren, Sienna, Dillon, Kailyn, Liam, Cohen, Spencer, and Nora; his great-grandchild, Ariyah; mother, Sondra Harter of Lakeview, Arkansas; and a sister, Penny Lane of Lakeview. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Harter; niece, Jennifer Lane; and brother-in-law, Rick Lane.
