Jeff, the son of Robert Orie and Martha (Robson) Guthrie, was born on December 23, 1960, in Newton. He grew up in Newton and graduated from Newton High School in 1979. During school, he was active in the FFA and 4-H. On February 15, 1985, Jeff was united in marriage with Trisha Walker at the First United Methodist Church in Newton. Jeff was a lifelong farmer but always worked other jobs as well. He started with Marv Morris in his construction company before starting his own company, Guthrie Construction. Later he would work for the Maytag Company and then for the State of Iowa DOT out of the Jasper County Shop. Jeff was a jack of all trades and could fix and make anything. He enjoyed taking care of his livestock; hunting; and raising and showing show pigs at the county, state, and national level with his children; son-in-law; and grandchildren. Jeff also loved his “girls”, Lucy and Gertie, his French Bulldogs. Whenever he was working or relaxing, Jeff loved to listen to music; especially classic rock on KGGO. He was a member of the Farm Bureau.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Trisha Guthrie of Newton; children, Shawna (Cody) Peters of Marshalltown, Jaynie Guthrie of Charles City, and Robbie (Leyna) Guthrie of Kellogg; grandchildren, Conner Peters, Abby Peters, Briley Peters, Clay Urias, and Hoytt Guthrie; his siblings, Bert (Marta) Guthrie of Newton and Mick (Kim) Guthrie of Newton; mother-in-law, Ina Walker of Newton; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Tom Guthrie, Robert Orie Guthrie, Jr., and Laura Madden; and a nephew, Therron Smith; and his father-in-law, Larry M. Walker.
