Jessica Soderblom Obituary

Jessica Marie Soderblom, 33, of Newton died on Monday, June 1, 2020, at MercyOne Newton Medical Center. A public visitation will be held from 3-6 p.m., Friday, June 5, 2020, at the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory.  A public funeral and military honors will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, June 6, at the National Guard Armory in Knoxville. Both events will follow social distancing guidelines. Due to limited seating inside of the Armory we recommend bringing a lawn chair and umbrella as overflow seating will be outside.  The service will be streamed live on the Wallace Family Funeral Home and Crematory’s Facebook page. All participants are encouraged to wear shirts from Jessica’s benefit or anything with the color orange, Jessica’s favorite color. Memorials to Jessica’s family (checks made out to Brandon Soderblom) may be left at the funeral home or at the service.

Jessica, the daughter of Dennis and Vickie (Davidson) Mitchell, was born on July 26, 1986 in Des Moines.  She grew up in Osceola and graduated from Clarke Community Schools. Growing up she was active in the Girl Scouts from Kindergarten through her Senior year and earned a trip to Alaska; where she spent her 18th birthday.  She also was a cheerleader.  On October 31, 2003, Jessica enlisted with the Iowa National Guard as a 63 Hotel (Track Vehicle Repairer).  She later became a 91 Juliet  (Quartermaster and Chemical Equipment Repairer) and then a 91F (Small Arms/Artillery Repairer).  Over the span of a 16+ year career in the Iowa Army National Guard, with one year of active duty in California, she attained the rank of an E5 Sergeant.

Jessica was united in marriage with Brandon Soderblom on December 19, 2010 at the Armory in Knoxville, where they met. They made their home in Newton.  After working with hospice as a CNA, Jessica returned to school and graduated from DMACC with a RN degree.  She had a heart for helping people and loved her work as a Hospice Nurse most recently working for the Hospice of the Midwest.  Jessica enjoyed hunting, guns, shopping, Mexican food and energy drinks.  Her favorite movie was the classic Top Gun. Jessica also liked weight lifting and had set several state records. She was thoroughly devoted to her children and loved getting them involved in activities and being there to cheer them on in all they did.

Jessica’s memory will live on through her husband, Brandon Soderblom of Newton; children, Olivia Willits and Gunner Soderblom; her mother, Vickie Mitchell (Scott Glenn) of Osceola; father, Dennis Mitchell of Osceola; her siblings, Christopher (Shelbie) Mitchell of Osceola and Tiffany McKnight (Ryan Lanman) of Osceola; maternal grandma, Diane Davidson of Des Moines; Olivia’s dad, Daine Willits of Fort Madison; and her many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She is also survived by Brandon’s family – her mother-in-law, Becky Soderblom (Bill Udelhoven) of Reasnor; father-in-law, Larry (Anita) Soderblom of Pleasantville; two brothers-in-law, Spencer Soderblom of Ankeny and Zach (Lorna) Soderblom of Marshville, North Carolina; two sisters-in-law, Shelby Soderblom (Daniel Hupke) of West Des Moines and Abbi Hartgers (Mark Bruxvoort) of Reasnor; two grandmothers-in-law, Dixie Rice of Reasnor and Ruth Rennpage of Newton; and step-mother-in-law, Robin Soderblom of Ankeny.  She will also continue to be honored by her entire military family and friends.
